Udagawa Seikoku Hijitani started studying pottery with Yoshida Hagien, a disciple of Living National Treasure Miwa Kyuwa (1895-1981) in 1963. In 1972, he studied in Korea and returned to Hagi to establish his kiln, named Tanmyo-gama, in 1973. In perfect condition bears the seal of the potter in a signed wooden box.

Udagawa Seikoku (Waku) was born in 1940 (Showa 15) and died in 2007 (Heisei 19) A Ceramist of Hagi-shi, in Yamaguchi prefecture. In 1963, he studied with Yoshida Haginen.and 1973 builds the "Dandyama oven kiln" In 1991, he receive the name of "Gengo" or "gemmo" from Mr. Sakinaga kajitani at Sogokuji Temple, he must not be confused with his younger brother Udagawa also ceramist but premature death at about 45 years Both not very known as ceramists but have made masterpieces often not recognized by the ceramic enthusiast community
